I’m Selena! Need an edit or beta read? Send me a message, DM, email, or fill out this form if you’re interested! I offer free editing samples of up to 2000 words (for developmental edits, copy/line edits, and proofreads) or the first three chapters. I specialize in fantasy, but am completely open to other genres. Hope we can start working together!
Important things to note:
I am POC, and have no issues whatsoever in aiding and supporting fellow POC authors.
I have not, do not, and will never use nor promote the use of AI in editing any work. AI has no place in editing books, and I will not work with clients who have, do use, and aim to use AI in writing their books.
If asked, I have no issues with signing an NDA to make my clients more comfortable.
I do not tolerate any form of racism, discrimination, hate speech, homophobia, or any harmful language.
As far as politics go: Fuck Ice & Fuck Trump; Free Palestine, Sudan, the Congo, and all marginalized communities and people; no one is illegal on stolen land; the only person who has rights to a woman’s body is the woman herself; Black lives matter; LGBTQ+ rights matter; trans lives matter; I will not deviate from any of this, and if you do not wish to work with me because of this, then I wish you luck.
Book Editing Services
Free Editing Sample
Before deciding if you’d like to follow through in working with me, we’d start with a free editing sample. It can be up to 2000 words or the first three chapters of your manuscript.
Depending on which editing service you choose (blurb edits, copy/line bundle, developmental edits, and proofreading), the sample would show you how I work. Mainly with track changes and suggestions and or critiques. In addition, a style sheet, editorial letter to explain my edits, and if it’s a copy or line edit, a final version of the document for you to compare and contrast.
Beta Reading
*Beta Readers are not a replacement for an editor*
I’d give detailed critiques/suggestions via track changes throughout the manuscript, alongside a beta reader report with predetermined questions and questions you, the author, may have.
This does not include edits. Merely critiques, suggestions, questions, and more.

Blurb/Synopsis Edit
This includes an initial read of the blurb, focusing on the hook, intrigue, character(s), setting, and problem. Along with thoughts and suggestions in the form of track changes.
Then, an edit to focus on the syntax, any grammatical issues, readability, and overall tone with a marked up document via track changes would be implemented.

Copy & Line Editing
This is a combined service of line and copy edits.
One round of editing. Two additional if in the scope of our contract.
I would implement at least two passes of copy edits (to ensure nothing is amiss), and two passes of line edits. I want to be as thorough as possible so that you receive the best quality I can muster. In addition, I would include a style sheet for all necessary information to keep shape of your tone from start to finish.
For copy edit passes, I would focus on spelling, grammar, punctuation, and syntax.
For line edit passes, the focus would go to narration, tone, language, and readability. All while ensuring the original tone of the work is not lost and is strengthened from start to finish.
I’ll also implement any comments/suggestions via track changes while working on your manuscript, and include an editorial letter to explain my edits, as well as a style sheet.
